Do you want to keep Stadium?

Well, as some of you know (If you don't, bad for you) we (or only me?) are implementing fully RBY Cartidge support in the Simulator for the next Version (Which is going to be V2). As i've been talking with some people Stadium isn't played, but i feel like it's played by a few people, so i don't want to remove a feature that some people may use (Even if it's less than 1% of the simulator).

So, i've created a poll here, do you want to keep Stadium? ¡Post your opinions!

Just to make it clear, if voted yes, then we'll have both Stadium AND Cartridge RBY, rather than just Cartridge RBY (personally I don't see why we need both, but it's your vote~)

    No.

The people who actually care about Gen 1 plays with cartridge RBY, not with Stadium. I still don't get why was Stadium programmed.

I voted no. True RBY is vastly superior to Stadium. Once PO gets True RBY, Netbattle will essentially be useless. Good for us.

There's no harm in keeping it. If some servers don't want tiers for it, that's fine, but why would you remove features which at least some users would enjoy?

Even if 98% of users don't want stadium, it's not going to hurt them to have it stay around. PO should ideally support all kinds of Pokemon, denying a subgeneration to those who would want it simply because others don't seems utterly wrong.

@crystal: "needed" is not required. So long as there is some advantage, it should stay around, since the work has already been done.
@bromance: Most of them prefer and have been accustomed to Cart, yes. But that does not mean that no one will ever want to play Stadium. Stadium was programmed because it's much less buggy, so easier to use the same code as Gen 2.
@elements: Superiority is subjective, and just because there is a generally more popular option is no reason to eliminate less popular ones entirely.

Then keep it as a full generation until subgens are implemented (which would be really cool for other things too)? It's a little ugly, but not too bad for the user.

Edit: Read your dev thread. Would it not be possible to write a script or use some clever find/replaces (with regex?) to shift the other gens up by one? And if for some reason it's not possible, it should be a fairly simple, if long, boring, and repetitive job, no? Which I would be up for doing if someone gives me a couple of pointers and it keeps an extra gen.

Edit2: Or perhaps make gen() not an int? How much messing about would that require?

Yes, removing a feature - the simulation of stadium mechanics - is not good for morale. It may be another potential reason against transition to a newer version, however minor the effect of a player-base split is in this instance.

I actually prefer Stadium mechanics as I like the strategical use of substitute for avoiding status such as freeze, and the fact that more care has to be placed into using sleeping moves - since it means it isn't likely you are a Pokemon down when one of your Pokemon is slept.

I voted yes. Although implementing Stadium in the first place was really stupid, now that we have it there isn't any point in removing it.

To be honest, not really. I don't play it much, and not many others do.

    Hm...

I'd say remove it. The Stadium implemented in PO isn't the "real" Stadium (3v3, Team Preview). Cartridge all the way

I think if RBY is added, we should keep watch on Stadium. If people won't play it, it's axed. It seems more logical that way - we can see if it truly has a following and not risk pissing off people who may have enjoyed it. Is Stadium's existence vastly hurting us?

In any case, reading Blitz's post, I think we should try altering Stadium to make it "real," if we are attempting to simulate that game.

Free Battle - Anything goes is 6 v 6. I think people prefer that to the stadium mode cups.

Can someone post the actual difference between stadium and RBY, because I'm confused?

Eh...I wouldn't have much of a say, but I'd vote no as to the fact that True RBY mechanics are superior to just regular stadium. As well as blitz said the stadium has now, it's just a placeholder for gen 1 battles in place of RBY. It isn't the real kind of stadium, but if it can be transtitioned someway to it and if your willing to do so it'd probably be better. Having both Stadium and RBY when it's incorporated seems weird, as Stadium will just be a weird imitation of RBY when the update is done.

I voted No. Let's be honest here, few people will be playing Stadium once Cartridge is out. It'd be better to have the bigger playerbase IMO.

I'd probably would only keep Stadium if it had the 3v3 with team preview implemented rather than just the 6v6 free battle; that mode was what really separated how it was played against the cartridge versions. Otherwise the Stadium RBY would be like the cartridge RBY with worse mechanics, in which it would be a no for me.

As others have already said, I'd remove it personally to keep the playerbase united in one tier and then later re-implement the real Stadium

Yeah, well, I voted yes, since i don't see any harm in keeping both. I don't really know the difference between Stadium and Cartridge, but anyways, if Blitz's post is correct, we should indeed change stadium to that game, 3v3, Team Preview.

Because this actually looks like it would be hard to implement (sub gens and all) I'd say get rid of it. However, if we end up implementing Sub-gens anyway, I'd say keep only Stadium OU, all the other tiers are just clutter and wasted space. Especially considering how the only people who wanted them in the first place don't even play Stadium.

voted no, 99.5% of the people who play RBY will prefer true RBY not stadium, and the people who dont really mind will not care switching over. when true RBY is implemented all RBY players will play it instead.

Well, Its a nostalgic feeling. Not really the most strategic game but still : Please keep it.
Does it give any problems or take up space or something ? Just curious :o

The only one thing I don't want is Wrap. With wrap dragonite will destabilize the entire OU metagame, wich is now the most equilibrated in all the story of pokémon. The unique thing I want is wrap will not work, because if it works, 1st gen will have a god in OU, called Dragonite, who will rival even Mewtwo.

I don't like the idea of splitting already small playerbases, and seeing how most people are in favour of cartridge, I've voted no.

I voted no, but I'm not adamantly against it either. I just want to see cartridge implemented as it's simply the more important metagame.

My vote's yes, keep both. A bit uglier for the user to have both, sure, but honestly having an update that removes a feature as major as the ability to play using an entire set of mechanics is bound to upset some people who prefer Stadium or at the very least would want to play it as an off-pitch to real RBY. Stadium's already implemented, how much harm or inconvenience could there really be in just keeping it?

That being said, the priority should be rolling real RBY out. If it turns out for some far-fetched reason that doing that necessarily entails removal of Stadium mechanics, I say ditch Stadium.

im voting yes! weve had stadium here for so long the way it is its become part of our daily lives... we are so accustomed to it being there i see NO reason to get rid of it just hide it away in RBY so we can keep it all there... (just make it tiers > RBY > other > stadium) just leave it there what is the harm of it being there? i mean what if you bring this new gen 1 and its a big fail because people prefer the mechanics of stadium? its a possibility! i know i for sure dont like the way hyper beam wrap and fire spin worked back in the day not to mention sleep... the way stadium is set up it prevents those things... if you get rid of stadium i suggest you ban wrap fire spin and hyper beam or make sure the mechanics of those 3 moves are not faulty like they were in game...

Idk reasons for keep Stadium if you don't have 3D graphis, 3x3 mode and/or team preview. Stadium is the worse metagame ever, idk any other metagame that your miss a hyper beam or hit some ghost and recharges your shot, its so stupid. Out that is a non balenced metagame overcentralized on substitute and Alakazam has not real counters.

If you want to keep Stadium (only reason that I can think to do this is for a wrong fun) I should advise the PO staff to create Stadium 2 metagame, Colosseum, XD and so on

I have to agree with: It's not increasing load on the server by existing, and it's already programmed, so no need to remove it.

EDIT: Hundredth post. Didn't care, voted anyway.
Also doesn't RBY2K10 already have cartridge implemented properly?

1st gen is all about centralizing moves - Body Slam to name one. I fail to see how the metagame is unbalanced compared to RBY. Substitute on things like Persian and Tauros just replace the centralizing Hyper Beam. There's also plenty of ways to counter Alakazam. Substitute works both ways, it doesn't just help Alakazam.

Dragonite was never that powerful in RBY, there are a decent number of counters to Wrap, not to mention the fact that it only works 85% of the time.

I think that both should be kept just for functionality. We don't have to end up using it but other servers may want to use it.

Keep stadium mechanics as well as cartridge. Stadium offers better gameplay by far. sub to take status, hyperbeam not being really broken and sleep not being an autokill being some of the upgrades. I understand that people who have never played either before want to get some easy wins with broken, terrible mechanics. but keep this in mind. cartridge mechanics were flawed-- they FIXED THEM IN STADIUM. Stadium is the way the game was supposed to work and it should be avaiable on the server.
