It takes quite a lot of time to explain the ropes of mafia to a newbie, though. Not a very feasible idea in the fast-paced-ness of mafia. :x
This would be a major problem if it were IP-based. Like if people had rotating IPs they'd have to put Mafia Tutoring on autojoin... This would be a major problem if it were name-based. Like if people wanted to change names they'd have to visit Mafia Tutoring... This would be a major problem if it didn't allow just a 1-second visit. It would mean all the non-newbies would have to go play a game, thus ruining the point. I probably overlooked something. But still.
Idk why people rage after lose a game, because is just a game! My main objec(h)tive is have fun with another people, and sometimes because the funny things of mafia a new mafiafriend appear(like Cat Fart, Midna. Grandmaaltaria...) Because i just want fun a lot of times i fakeclaim(or claiming BG being BG, since people know my style) and a lot of people(newbies inclusive) rages on me for this, like when one time I claimed PL being villager and BG protected me instead of the inspector, or when I fakeclaimed BG(I always claim BG) and the real BG claim in the chat saying ¨he's lying, i'm the bodyguard!" xDD When I see some problems(fails, bad themes... etc) the 90% of the times I try to help(except when i'm angry for external motives e.e) examples: I helped GameandWatch to make changes in the theme Sonic, or when I help newbies to learn about themes in general, btw, try to help newbies answering the questions he have, not telling him the roles, he will only get confused by all the things and posibilities can happen in mafia... one thing Idk about the newbies(or old players too a_a) is the hatekill, or more like the continue hatekill(I must admit if the next game is Vepix I will kill everybody alive who killed/voted off me the last games) The last situation was in an elements game, I was sodium and i got voted off, in order to help the chlorine to survive more I said "btw, (nick of the player) evaded my kill" he got voted off next round for this (and LOOOL, he was plutonium xDDDDD) after this he started to insult me in pm saying i can get banned for targeting(lol) or trolling (ok) and he was going to hatekill me or the time(bad way to start), if someone say this try to be good with him, I told him i just did it to help the partner and, if he want to kill me, is ok. Yep, he didn't kill me in the next three games, I think he understood this is mafia and is just a game. btw, i hate the personalized kills missage like ¨Tornadus defeated you!¨ then the guy who dies clearly see who killed him and he try to kill him next game, welcome, hatekill. In general i must admit I love mafia and the people who plays with me, and be sure I'm always prepared to help people to play mafia, everybody is newbie one time... Bye.
I had to respond to this bit. See, personalised kill messages allow for two major things; one, it will be a lot easier to see if your killer was a Vigi if you're a PR, as in themes with unique messages they can tell upon death; two, as /stalk for (I think super) MAs I don't think is implemented yet, it allows easier tracking of who killed you (bringing it down to perhaps four, five at the maximum?) so it's easier to tell if someone's targetting you and who it is.
By that logic, Daykillers shouldn't exist, themes with only one poisoner should remove them or add more poisoners and votes should be secret.
And if it was implemented as a 1-second visit, there would be no point to it at all, as you just could have it on auto-join and let newbies / trolls play immediately anyway. Anyway, pretty much the worst thing about Mafia atm is the lack of similarity when it comes to themes. I'm not talking about the themes themselves - I'm talking about the various designs. The borders of the game messages are different for a lot of themes, the name of the bot is different for no reason whatsoever. If the borders look the same, it will make it easier to read and understand for newbies. If the bot used is always the same (Murkrow / MafiaBot / GameBot / whatever is being used atm), it will be easier to read and understand for newbies. Neither change negatively affects the themes, nor does it negatively affect the Mafia Channel in the slightest, yet it offers improvements to help newer players stick around.
The thing with botname, is that sometimes the default bot (which I can't actually remember, I have to admit I do change it to something more relevant to my themes...I think) doesn't fit with the theme. Like in Myth, for example, bots technically wouldn't exist, because I would think it would be set before they were invented? I could be miswording this, but... I just checked SSBB+, and it has: "killmsg": "+Announcer: ~Player~ (~Role~) has been thrown off of the screen!", This is what I mean, it's something that makes a lot more sense in the context of the theme than MafiaBot or whatever. Plus the bot name being changed, from what I can tell people hardly look at it anyway, it's not something that will make a major appearance change. Borders, though, they take up a lot more space on the screen, and hence a change could be disorientating. Plus that if someone makes their custom one too long it could go onto a separate line and make it worse... (although SSBB having a different border makes it easier for me to tell when I come in to, for example, a Meta Knight kill whether I missed SSBB+ and a chance to see Poke Ball in action or not. ^^; I still haven't seen the non-Suicune ones, so...)
Thanks, that helps. (: Murkrow wouldn't fit with a LOT of the themes made, for example of my themes Dedede most prominently; Murkrow does not exist in Dream Land. Non-matching bots could confuse people more, in my opinion.
http://pastebin.com/UcKZ0tvJ Some guy is new and makes a mistake in Mafia by revealing Lightning as Locke. This caused village to lose the game. This is an anger-inducing scenario, and it's very hard to not say anything about it. (Something similar happened when I first started. I was confused about the inspector/zelda roles, as I didn't know Zelda couldn't claim, and thus was confused to when I should claim, and this caused some people to become angry/insulting.) Then he claims to be somewhat new to the game, and after asking MAs about this, it seemed to be true. However, he was insulted before getting banned, and then this continued after his ban, which almost seemed like a rage-ban, which was not discussed before hand. This behaviour is what the whole topic is about - older and experienced players that would rather ban a new player who made a mistake than ask them if they are new or didn't know how the theme works. Even if the insulting is minor, it's better off to not do it at all, and this is a hard thing to do for some people, I can grant you that. However, we do not want Mafia to die off because new players are becoming disinterested. That's it, I think.
And that, sadly, is how people just like that turns "U noob" and we lose new people from the channel. Really if you see a person whom you haven't seen before in the channel, and he Team-revealed, you should instead o banning him ask him whether he is a new player or not.
wow, that really sucked. Why he got banned if he was new? People learn to play mafia in the Kingdergarden? no, if a newbie can't fail... bah. We need less ¨fucking noob¨ or ¨you suck¨ and more ¨Ignore this guys, I'm going to help you¨.
Yup, instead of insulting, they should've helped the poor newbie. Basically this discussion is also about ways we could help the newbies without being bad to them.
Crystal has made it so whenever someone joins #Mafia Channel they also join #Mafia Tutoring. The reason for this is that there are a lot of new players that come into the #Mafia Channel everyday and by allowing them access to #Mafia Tutoring this might help increase the total amount of regularly active users in Mafia. Another change is that the staff has decided to make #Mafia Tutoring an official channel. What this means is anyone that helps in that channel, such as offering to tutor the mafia newbies, can have a better chance at Mafia Admins. This also means that any newbie bashing will result in a server wide offense (mute / kick / tempban / ban). Hopefully these changes can alleviate the toxic atmosphere of Mafia.
It's quite saddening to see that the situation of mafia has called for a need of all of these trouble. :/
And the thing with Mafia Tutoring now being autojoined, is that if someone just happens to look in there and see someone asking a question they know the answer to, they can just answer it there. I probably worded that badly.
By the way, the person who came up with that statement deserves a medal. Everyone is hungry for MA and now, the channel is very active with the senior Mafians being very helpful and all, just to get MA. (including myself. :P)
I find this saddening because just a day before this was implemented, a new guy came in, asked for tutoring and only I responded. Same thing happens after this is proposed and everyone wants to tutor! How surprising. And do you need to be on /cauth to tutor?
No you do not have to be a member of the cauth to be a tutor. In fact if we see that you have been tutoring people we will give you cauth in that channel. For non-MAs you will be given members within the channel and those people are probably the most likely choice when determining Mafia Admin promotions.
So, after being away from Mafia from a long time, I think I will get down to tutoring people at Mafia Tutoring. Especially if it increases my chance at getting Ma.
Guys no one should tolerate this kind of abuse. If that scenario does happen they should be banned from mafia untill they realise how they can improve and learn from those mistakes. I don't condone willful disruption but that negative attitude is quite unacceptable in my eyes.
Negative attitude is indeed unacceptable, and i find it weird how that people who say "u noob" and "u suck" rarely get muted for that.
Guys, if you see this stuff, report it to a mod. Not an MA - MAs handle Mafia rules - but a mod, who would handle server rules, like insulting newbies. The auth know about the culture of the channel and insulters will be punished.
I think the "increased chances of being MA" will cause almost everyone to turn over a new leaf, since obviously everybody wants MA.
We know a lot of you will be gunning for MA. We're not stupid. It's an incentive, but don't be brazen about only being in Mafia for tutoring... Someone who hasn't been in Mafia for months being a tutor? I see nothing wrong with this. Also, you probably are aware that MAs are given to people who have proven they have character, dependability, as well as knowing how to respect others.
