The simulator currently uses 3rd generation substitute sprites. Unless if I'm mistaken, ShoddyBattle and NetBattle do the same thing. So, yeah. There they are.

Is there any special method necessary to zip poke_img.zip? The program doesn't seem to read from the methods I've tried.
Well, you have to not put a folder inside the zip. To do that, you generally need to extract all the contents in and empty folder, do the changes, then go INSIDE the main folder, select everything , right click and make the archive. Then rename the resulting archive.
